He encourages private mediation, and on very limited requested occasions, will request the magistrate judge to conduct settlement discussions. If a civil case settles, counsel in the case should notify Judge Sharp's Case Manager and let him know. At that time, the court will enter a 30, 45 or 60-day order dismissing the case without prejudice, giving any party that amount of time to reopen the case if it is not consummated by then. When the order is entered, all future deadlines and court proceedings will be vacated and the case will be closed.
