Judge Simon: Preliminary Pretrial Conference

The Magistrate Judge typically holds a Rule 16 preliminary pretrial conference, at which a discovery plan is determined and various forms of alternative dispute resolution are discussed. At that conference, the parties should be prepared to inform the Court of the nature of the case, report on the possibility of settlement, and discuss the nature and length of discovery necessary to prepare the case for trial. A proposed discovery plan may be required to be filed in advance of the conference.
