Public Notice: Lafayette Clerk's Office Closing

The Clerk of Court for the United States District Court of the Northern District of Indiana hereby provides public notice regarding the closing of its Lafayette clerk’s office, a sub-office of its Hammond Division. Effective May 31, 2024, the clerk’s office located at the Charles A. Halleck Federal Building, 230 N. Fourth Street, Lafayette, Indiana, is closed to the public. All in-person services and operations formerly provided in Lafayette, Indiana, will be transferred to the Hammond office located at 5400 Federal Plaza, Suite 2300, Hammond, Indiana 46320. Filings and payments may be made via mail to the Hammond office or by utilizing the Court’s electronic filing system. The clerk’s office will continue to assign Lafayette cause numbers to new cases asserting venue in Lafayette (which consists of the following counties: Benton, Carroll, Jasper, Newton, Tippecanoe, Warren, and White). The Court’s Jury Selection Plan for Grand and Petit Jurors and the procedure relied upon for the selection of jurors remain unimpacted by the closure of the Lafayette sub-office.

Questions regarding case filings and all other inquiries should be directed to the Hammond clerk’s office at 219-852-6500. Phone calls are answered Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CT, with the ability to conduct in-person transactions from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CT.
